THE PREPOSITION

And He (Jesus) ordained twelve, that they should be WITH Him, and that He might send them forth to preach...—Mark 3:14

Preposition - A function word that combines with a noun or pronoun or noun phrase to form a prepositional phrase...A word governing a noun or pronoun expressing a relationship to another word.

The word WITH is a preposition.  It's a word that shows how we are to be in relationship to Him (Jesus). It combines with the pronoun Him (referring to Jesus) and governs it by showing that we're to be WITH Him. In other words, Jesus came so that we might BE WITH HIM. His primary purpose was not that we would be FOR Him but that we should be WITH Him...

This little preposition changes the entire perspective of Christianity from a religion where people live FOR Jesus, to a wonderful divine relationship, where people live WITH Jesus. It transforms the concept of ministry and mission from working FOR the Lord to working WITH the Lord. Most errors are made by people trying to live and labor FOR God rather than WITH God.

Take serious note that Jesus' first and foremost calling is that we might be WITH Him. Only then does He send us forth to preach. Not AFTER we've gotten with Him, but WHILE we're with Him! The last sentence in the Gospel of Mark says it all:

And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. —Mark 16:20

This morning, before you do anything or go anywhere, get WITH Jesus. Go WITH Him. Work WITH Him. Stay WITH Him.
